Orange Shirt Day - September 30th 

On this day, Roots of Empathy is observing Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours survivors of residential schools and their communities, and is a day for Canadians to take part in learning the truth of our history with Indigenous communities as an important part of moving towards reconciliation. With the pandemic came children’s loss of opportunities to develop socially and emotionally as they normally would if they were in their own classroom with their peers and teacher. We cannot expect children to be able to learn academically when they are socially and emotionally dysregulated. Teachers need to be supported.
